Galleri Testing

Galleri testing refers to the Galleri test, a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test. It is designed to detect over 50 types of cancer by analyzing DNA fragments in the blood for cancer-specific signals. Galleri tests are performed in the comfort of the clinic at Sterling Wellness.
How It Works
-
The test looks for methylation patterns in circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA), which can indicate the presence of cancer.
-
If a cancer signal is detected, the test can help identify the tissue of origin (i.e., where the cancer is likely coming from).
-
It is a screening test, not a diagnostic test, meaning further medical evaluation is needed to confirm a cancer diagnosis.
Who Should Consider Galleri Testing?
-
It is primarily recommended for people at higher risk of cancer, such as:
-
Those aged 50 and older
-
Individuals with a family history of cancer
-
Those with other risk factors (e.g., smoking, genetic predisposition)
-
Limitations & Considerations
-
Not FDA-approved yet, but available under CLIA-certified laboratories.
-
Not a replacement for standard cancer screenings (e.g., mammograms, colonoscopies).
-
Can produce false positives or false negatives, so further testing is required if a signal is detected.
